CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant George W. Wright, United States Army, for gallantry in action against the enemy near Borgo Sabotino when his assistant was wounded in the leg and arm after about 35 Germans struck his section of the outpost line, and succeeded in delaying the hostile advance sufficiently to permit his comrade to withdraw. In order to cover the wounded man's withdrawal, he advanced toward the enemy, firing his automatic rifle from the hip. Although he placed himself in an extremely dangerous position by advancing alone toward the enemy, he succeeded in delaying the hostile advance sufficiently to permit his comrade to withdraw. Sergeant Wright then made a fighting withdrawal to his own main line of resistance.
