Bernard R. Hanauer<br> Captain<br> SOE <br> instructor,Arisaig<br> SOE Far East<br>21 SAS (Captain) postwar<br> <br> While on his way to the memorial gathering in<br> Berlin on July 20th 1984, 67-year-old Bernard Hanauer<br> died at London Airport. As a Dutch student in<br> Germany before the war, he was a determined<br> opponent ofthe Nazi regime and spent some time<br> in Dachau. During the war, he joined the Special<br> Operations Executive and carried out much undercover<br> work in the Far East. After 1945, Captain<br> Hanauer taught at Bedales and Charterhouse, but<br> in the wider world he was chairman of One Free<br> Democratic Europe, vice president of the Union<br> des Resistants pour une Europe Unie and of the<br> Union Internationale de la Resistance et de la<br> Deportation. He also sat on the executive of the<br> Comite International de Dachau. Among his<br> many decorations was the Netherlands Resistance<br> Memorial Cross
