SIKORSKY UH-60L BLACK HAWK (REGISTRATION: 93-26517)
A/C crashed at approx 0400 hrs in northwestern Zabul Province in the Daychopan district near Chinaran village while on a spec ops mission. Flight of 3 Black Hawks departed PZ at 0351 hrs for a night insertion of ground force elements and was attempting to land on rocky terrain from a hover. Crew was initiating a go-around when low rotor audio alarm sounded and A/C impacted a rock formation nose first, cabin area and fuselage were torn from the cockpit and several passengers were ejected as fuselage rotated in the air. A/C power demanded exceeded the power available due to environmental conditions during excessive nose-low attitude in takeoff sequence, that caused decrease in rotor RPM.
