CITATION:

Member of the Order of the British Empire : Major Douglas commands 'B' Squadron of the Special Air Service Regiment (Malayan Scouts) which on 9th Feb 52 carried out a parachute operation in the BELUM Valley.

Before the operation took place considerable refresher training was necessary for the squadron and this Major Douglas organised in an extremely efficient manner. This training was difficult is so far as no proper ground training facilities existed at the time, but in spite of this over 250 jumps were made without a single serious injury. Much of the credit for this must go to Major Douglas for the painstaking way in which he tackled the problem. He was always first to jump at all stage of the training and instilled confidence in his men.

During the operational jump on 9th Feb 52 Major Douglas leadership was outstanding. Extremely bad weather caused many of the squadron to land in trees of the DZ, but Major Douglas rallied his squadron and brought it into action in a very short space of time.

He displayed courage and determination and a devotion to duty throughout this trying period worthy of the highest praise.
