CITATION:

Bronze Star : CAPTAIN ROBERT M. WILSON, (then First Lieutenant), 0-513 288, Medical Corps, Army of the United States, is awarded the BRONZE STAR MEDAL for meritorious service during the period 12 March 1945 to 5 September 1945, while serving with a Medical Services unit in the China Theater, For two months Captain Wilson was stationed in South China, where he rendered medical attention to the personnel there, and later was Medical Officer for an intelligence team based in French Indo-China, whence he walked three hundred miles into China with this team in order to escape capture by the enemy. During this retreat through hostile country he gave excellent and indispensable medical care to Americans, Chinese and French Foreign Legionnaires, many of whom were suffering from serious serious injuries and disease. On 14 August 1945, Captain Wilson made a combat jump into South China in support of a combat team. Under extreme handicaps he performed a difficult emergency operation on one of the American team members. In order to effect safe evacuation of his patient, Captain Wilson walked from the area and at several points encountered resistance from the enemy. Being as he was unable to use the enemy held airfield for for evacuation because the enemy was still in possession of the city, he remained with the patient giving Medical care until surrender was negotiated and air evacuation possible. His daring, professional skill and devotion to duty were in the highest tradition of the Medical profession. The achievements of Captain Wilson reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
