Hi Graham,

Does your forthcoming book "SAS Operation Pistol - Raindrops in Alsace" have a nominal roll ?

The reason I ask is if the Cpl Hill who took part was actually 815148 Cpl GC Hill ?

Best wishes,

Ian

Hi Craig,

Many thanks for verifying Cpl George C Hill and for the link, superb !!!

I asked about Cpl Hill as I was introduced to his son by my father in law many years ago. His son gave me various info on his father. One to note was that on one raid the famous safe cracker Johnny Ramensky was with them.

George Hill was from Bo'ness and is listed on the "Bo'ness and Carriden Parishes Roll of Honour 1939-1945".

Best wishes,

Ian

You may like to know that I visited an 2SAS soldier who was with your man Corporal Hill. His name was cyril Wheeler and he told me about an episode they all experienced when behind the lines. They were at one point holed up in a barn next to a farmstead. A German group of cooks moved into th ground floor of the barn with the SAS on the upper floor. The cooks prepared a meal amd the SAS could bear it no longer and went down and at gun point held up the cooks - ate some of their food and then left the barn after warning the cooks they would be shot if they tried to leave. Cyril Wheeler told me this story and he was in Hill's group - Graham - I met Cyril in around 1998 at his flat in Southsea. I spent the night there as I had just returned from France. I gave him hs escape route in the form of a marked route on a map - he had had no idea until then where he had been when on Pistol.
