CITATION:
Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct : From mid-February to early June this year, Maior Edwards reimposed the authority of the Security Forces in an area of Belfast where riots, bombings, sniping and ambushes had become frequent. He led a large number of patrols into the terrorists' area with considerable success. On 5th March his company position was attacked for an hour by small arms fire and with disregard for his own safety, Major Edwards moved about to observe and identify the gunmen's position and ordered a sniper to return the fire. His resolute action enabled him to keep a firm grip on a dangerous situation which endangered the lives of innocent persons. Later, when two of his patrols were ambushed, he was relentless in his follow-up action which he directed personally.
Throughout his tour, he conducted his operations wiith courage, resolute leadership and skilful diplomacy.
