CITATION:
Mention in Despatches : On the night of 14/15 May 1982, demolition Assault Teams of the Special Forces attacked an enemy auxiliary airfield on Pebble lsland, off the north coast of West Falkland.
Throughout this dramatically successful action, which resulted in eleven enemy aircraft destroyed, Corporal HILL was part of the surveillance force. When elements of the party came under attack, he located and neutralised the enemy position threatening their withdrawal. The speed and precision of his reaction gave cover to otherwise vulnerable withdrawing troops.
Later, on 27 May 1982, Corporal HILL was again to the fore in Advance Force actions behind enemy lines in the Mount Kent area seven kilometres to the west of Port Stanley on the inland of East Falkland. Ordered to attack an enemy patrol penetrating his Squadron position, his speedy intervention was largely instrumental in the rout of the enemy.
For his very courageous leadership and exceptional professional skill, he is very strongly recommended for Mention in Despatches.
