He spent his boyhood days through high school graduation in Roseville, Illinois and then attended Knox College at Galesburg, Illinois.</p> <p style="margin-left: 20px"></p> <p style="margin-left: 20px">He is survived by his wife, Lilla, of 59 years; son Mike (wife Janne); son David (wife Rosemarie); and daughter Lois Ortiz (husband Michael). Grandchildren are Jeffrey, Justin, Aaron and Divina, and great grandson Jeremiah. John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and Bob Livermore, and sister Martha Harlan.</p> <p style="margin-left: 20px"></p> <p style="margin-left: 20px">On December 29, 1951 John enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was assigned to Lackland Air Force Base Texas and then to Keesler Air Force Base Mississippi for electronics training. While at Keesler AFB he was accepted into the USAF Aviation Cadet Training Program which led to a commission of Second Lieutenant and an aeronautical rating of Aircraft Observer. Upon completion of a three year overseas tour at Bentwaters Royal Air Force Station, England, he applied for the USAF Pilot Training Program and on December 29th, 1956 received his pilot rating. He was then assigned to Randolph AFB, Texas for advanced pilot training in helicopters.</p> <p style="margin-left: 20px"></p> <p style="margin-left: 20px">During his 30 year career, he served in Vietnam and flew numerous helicopter combat missions where he was awarded the Silver Star, 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, and 11 Air Medals. His other notable assignment was that as Commander of Tachikawa Air Base, Japan, which he enjoyed immensely. After duty in Japan, he was assigned as Executive Officer for the Inspector General, Headquarters 12th Air Force, Bergstrom AFB, Texas. He spent nine years in this assignment prior to retiring.</p> <p style="margin-left: 20px"></p> <p style="margin-left: 20px">His second career was that of a residential real estate agent in Austin, Texas.
