my grandfathers brother leonard Rider [ lenny ] was killed crossing the rhine near wessel , with his french guide they are buried together in the reichswald . my grandfather found out many years latter that lenny was buried in grave [ row] 62 , the same house door number as my grandfather albert rider lived most his life . , for my grandad to loose his elder brother it was very hard , both men over 6ft dockers from barking east london , lenny first joined the royal navy and they got a transfer into 46 commando , my grandad never talked about the war much but remembered lenny coming home with a bren gun to show him and let a few rounds off over the local playing fields ..
