Hi,
I think this is my Uncle Len my Dads ( Thomas wallace Tindale) who served with the DLI and was captured at Dunkirk.
I remember ,as a child hearing , in hushed tones, than uncle Len was a member of Popski's private army . Would this be true? Unfortunately i have lost touch with the wider family so have no one to ask.

Joan
This is my grandfather. I am his grandson by virtue of being the eldest son of his eldest son Len (young Len). As a teenager I remember going for a walk and a pint down North Road, Durham with grandfather and great Uncle Tom. Their brother Billy is still alive and reasonably well.

Amazing to hear from you especially as I have lost touch with all of dads side of the family.
I have been watching SAS rogue heroes and wondering how that fitted with PPA. Did uncle Len talk about his time in the war ?
My only memory of him is when he came to Dads funeral in 1981 - I was only about 23 at the time- and he looked so much like my Dad that it broke my heart. I originally looked at this site when my first grandchild born last year was named Leonard/Len and it brought back memories of uncle Len, particularly how the family talked about his time in the war.
Must say what a fantastic photo it is of Len- how handsome he was ! We all think he looks like a young Elvis !

Thanks for getting back to me. I was at uncle Tom’s funeral with my my grandad. Joan, please feel free to contact me directly by email or phone. Details are below. I have quite a few images of grandad and most of the rest of the family, Uncle Jim, Louis, Billy, aunty Teresa and more. My father (young Len) would be interested in chatting also I’m sure when I tell him.

Kind regards

Tindale
