CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Warrant Officer 2 Angel E. DeJesus, United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with the 3d Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Special Operations Task Force 73 (SOTF-73), during combat operations in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, on 19 May 2006, in Afghanistan. On that date, Chief Warrant Officer Two DeJesus was serving with a team of about two dozen Special Forces soldiers who were ambushed in the Uruzgan Province, Afghanistan, by an estimated 150 to 200 Taliban Fighters. Disregarding his own safety, Warrant Officer DeJesus left his covered position to treat Captain Mat Johnsen's gunshot wound, using his own body to shield his detachment commander. Chief Warrant Officer 2 DeJesus' gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
