Cpl Dennis Leach and Mne Michael Southern, 45 Cdo

The 13 August is the anniversary of their murder and what remained of them lives with me still and always will. I now live near Luton and wish to pay my respects, however, I cannot find any gravestone for Michael at Stopsley where it is recorded he is ay rest. Can anyone help. I know his name is on the Markyate War Memorial, so is it possible he is at rest there.


I will never forget them, God rest their souls, and if I and others speak of them their memory will live forever.

There is another cemetery in Stopsley in addition to The Vale so I am not sure which you have checked. It would be worth checking STOPSLEY (ST. THOMAS) CHURCHYARD. There are nine CWGC graves there from WW1 and WW2 so he may have been buried there. Unfortunately the Parish Office is closed until the 10th. Details below :

Much appreciate your interest, yes, I spent quite some time at St Thomas but no sign. Hoping that if I leave contact details at Markyate War Memorial I maybe lucky.
