hi
I am looking for any live members of 50 middle east commando, my grandfather was one and I am carrying out research on him when he was with them, also any member of 2nd SAS still alive for same reason.

Hi there,

I'm the same person that replied to your other posting, so hopefully you'll pick this up, I'm something of a noob when it comes to forums.

Just to cover it again, my Grandfather was also part of the 50th Middle East Commandos and I have loads of his old photos plus some existing research that I have been doing.

It'll be great to exchange knowledge.

Thanks.

Mike.

his name was francisco geronimo. otherwise known as frank williams. he was one of the 62 spaniards recruited in palastine. he was later captured on crete and escaped after a year on teh run. his picture is on this site if you type in geronimo you will find it. as far as info on 50 me commando I am still trying to find bits out like where their regimental diary is etc.

Hi Geronimo and Mheald

Just came across this site and was surprised to see both your comments. My late father, Joaquin Fajardo, was also a member of the 50th Middle East Commandos. I also have photos, documents and other research papers in connection with this unit and I would gladly exchage info.

I also noted that you were asking about the ME Historical Research Group. All relevant papers were originally bequeathed to the National Army Museum by Colonel George Young and Lt Colonel Stephen Rose. When I contacted the museum on various occasions from 1995 to 2005 they had still not received any papers from the Rose estate. This may have changed as I gave up enquiring. A Spanish writer, Daniel Arasa, who wrote a book named "Los Espanoles de Churchill" got most of his information from this source. access

hi tony
nice to know someone actually reads my posts ha ha. anything you have pertaining to 50 commando would be really helpful. Im reading charles messengers book trying to piece the unit and my grandfathers role together. you might want to look at teh diary of J trill which is in the IWM collections, he escaped over Pyrenees with the Spaniards and ended up in 50 commando and layforce until capture on Crete. he is one of the 63 I was looking for so the IWM tell me but I am yet to get a photocopy bought from them. can you give me some more info on your father, as much info as you can so I can cross referance what I know against mine, also would be interested where he fought in spain if you know
