CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Howard Albert (ASN: 20204068), United States Army, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as a Medical Aidman with the Medical Detachment, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 17 September 1943, about one-quarter mile North of Altavilla, Italy. Private Albert administered first aid and carried injured men to safety while under extremely heavy and accurate artillery fire without regard for his own personal safety. His courageous conduct was instrumental in saving the lives of many wounded comrades. Private Albert's gallant actions and selfless devotion to duty, without regard for his own safety, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
