Floyd married Olive Elizabeth Swenson in Big Stone County, Minnesota on 29 November 1941.​

Floyd was at Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion and was originally buried in the Lacambe Isigny Cemetery in France. In July 1948, his body was returned from France and reburied in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. ​
