Chindits 1944

Second of Foot

My Father served with 2nd Btn Queens Royal Regiment but was attatched to a Royal Artillery unit that was operating as infantry at the time-hence the Queens Royal Regimental history does not give much detail what they were involved in and I wonder if anyone else has any information in this respect.

Hi,

Have you read the following books?

Wild Green Earth, by your father's Commander, Bernard Fergusson.

To be a Chindit, by Phil Sharpe

March or Die, by Phil Chinnery.

They all cover the actions of 16th Indian Brigade and columns 45 & 54 which included the RA attachments. Otherwise all I know is they had a terrible time of it, not only having to march in to Burma while others were flown in, but suffered badly around the Indaw actions.

Steve.

Hello

I have been researching my Grand father and his time with the 16th Brigade. During my research I have been in touch with a ldaughter of a soldier who was in 54 column. I may be able to help with some info if you would like to contact me. I'll see what else i can find out for you.
