No definite information is held as to how Capt Grimson died, there being two versions:
a. Japanese statements said that Capt Grimson and his sergeant died in an ambush on the morning following entry into Timor (22 Aug 44). One of his natives fell from a cliff and died, the remaining two being captured and eventually died of illness and starvation while POWs.
b. Intelligence information stated that Capt Grimson and his sergeant were wounded on 22 Aug 44, were captured, and died as POWs at some later date, possibly Feb 45. One native was killed in the ambush, the remaining two also being captured and died as POWs.
