CITATION:
Military Medal : After the capture of the Coastal Battery m.r. 183239 on Cape Murro Di Porco on July 10th 1943, Two pill boxes which had been by-passed on the Southern Coast opened up with machine gun fire.
1428802 L/Cpl. Jones W. was put in charge of a sub-section with orders to destroy the pill boxes.
Showing great resource and determination this N.C.O. approached so near to the pill boxes that he was able to pitch grenades inside.
Apart from killing or capturing all enemy occupants he was able to rescue a British Prisoner of War.
