CITATION:

Mention in Despatches : RM 18732 Sergeant Mayne has been the troop sergeant of the assault engineer troop in 45 Commando, Royal Marines, since March 1967. During this time Sergeant MAYNE has served in Dhala, Habilayn, Little Aden, and the Ma'alla District of Aden. In all these areas, he has planned, built, or supervised the building of camp structures and protected accommodation (for an entire company at Dhala). He has built, or supervised the building of many miles of protective wiring and scores of sandbagged emplacements and sangars.

He has blown blinds and disarmed mines. In one area near Habilayn, he supervised the clearing of 300 blinds in 2 days. In addition to this he has instructed all reinforcements to the unit in mine precautions.

In short Sergeant MAYNE has carried out jobs way beyond the normal call of duty. By his leadership, drive, personality, and sense of humour, he has kept his men at work, meeting difficult deadlines, and always demanding exceptionally high standards from which he has never deviated.

His contribution to the security, defence, efficiency, and comfort of the unit has been second to none.
