Donald James McLachlan

My fathers name was Steve Pasztor. S/Sgt. McLachland was my fathers second best friend. My father was McLaclan section leader and after McLacland was killed while operating deep behind enemy lines. My father remembered about his high school friend Pfc. Emery J. Mate who was killed while singlehandly attacking a Jap machinegun position on the island of New Georgia in the Pacific 7 months earlier. Pfc. Mate was awarded the Silver Star for being killed while attacking the Jap machinegun, so when my father filed the after action report on how S/Sgt. McLacland was killed he wrote that McLacland was killed while charging two german machineguns. My father was hoping that by doing this McLacland would be awarded the Silver. He told me it was the least he could do for his friend. I do not know wether my fathers ploy worked or not. If anyone has any information I can be reached at
