Emile Minerault whilst serving as an OSS officer, was the 2 i/c to my father, Erwin Deman: an SOE officer responsible for the establishment and operation of the VAR escape line in Occupied France in 1943 and 1944. Minerault was aka Peter Archibald JONES, and he has an SOE file at the National Archives in Kew, reference HS 9/1039/2. He was born a Frenchman on 27/9/1911 in Tours, France. He is inscribed among the victims of war by the MINISTERE DES ANCIENS COMBATTANTS ET VICTIMES DE GUERRE.

A few weeks before D-Day, he and Raymond Langard, VAR's radio operator were arrested by the Gestapo. Minerault died on the 4th March 1945 at Nordhausen in Germany.
