CITATION:

British Empire Medal : Warrant Officer Park dealt with more than 100 explosive devices during four months in Northern Ireland and on several occasions was struck by missiles while disarming devices during riots. On 29th January, he found that a delayed action incendiary bomb had been placed in the back of an Army vehicle. Recognising the peril to the driver, he ordered the area to be cleared and lifted the bomb from the vehicle. The device immediately burst into flames but he was able to 'throw it into the now empty roadway where it burnt out. His brave and timely action prevented severe injuries, possibly loss of life, and damage to property.

Warrant Officer Park throughout his tour displayed courage and devotion to duty far beyond the normal call in handling large quantities of explosives of doubtful stability and with dangerous devices.
