CITATION:

Silver Star : Corporal George O. Pelley (ASN: 39616721), United States Army, was awarded the Silver Star (Posthumously) for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving with the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division, in action in the European Theater of Operations in December 1944. On that date a wounded man had fallen in the midst of a continued barrage of grenades. Private Pelley went forward despite the increased enemy fire to bring the soldier back to safety and was mortally wounded shortly after recovering his comrade. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
