I first met Ian when we were both members of the 2nd Eastleigh Boys Brigade, subsequently I joined the Army and completed training at the Parachute Regiment Depot in 1970. When I was posted to 2 Para imagine my surprise and shock to come face to face with my old friend Ian, now a corporal. Ian was a gentle soul, a man both respected and admired. I was serving with the RUC G.C. in 1979 when the incident at Warrenpoint happened, it was a very sad day for me.
