I'm looking for information about this SOE agent, born 26-01-1910 Naaldwijk The Netherlands, died 28-09-1985 Johannesburg, South Africa.

Dessing was dropped in the Netherlands in the night of 27-28 of february 1942 close to Ermelo in central Holland. He wasn't able to carry out his complete mission due to the fact that the so called Englandgame had started and he wasn't able to contact his wireless operator. He returned to England on the second of september 1943. He didn't want to continue working for SOE and was given a civiel job. His SOE mission was called CARROT, codename: George.

What did Dessing do after the war and are there any pictures of him during wartime?

I came across George Dessing in the book Secret War by Nigel West, (ISBN 0-340-58029-1)According to Nigel, Dessing was a South African who was accidently dropped into an SS training camp on 27/28 Feb. 1942. Dessing casually walked out, giving the Nazi salute to the guards who thought he belonged. He later escaped being caught again when he tried to meet Andringa in a cafe. Dessing felt something was wrong, and left the cafe, passing right by Andringa and his German escort. Realising Andringa was under German control and having no way of contacting London. (his radio operator Jan Molenaar was killed on landing. The same night Dessing parachuted?) He fled via Switzerland and eventually reached London in Autumn 1943. I have no further info on Mr. Dessing as yet, but I shall try some local sources. Rob Annandale, Johannesburg, South Africa. Wees Sterk

Hello Willem, Kan jy my Afrikaans verstaan? Please try this web address,http://www.nisa-intelligence.nl/PDF-...DAGversie2.pdf
Frans Kluiters wrote a book: Dutch Agents 1940-1945 and refers to Mr. Dessing at the above site, his book was written recently, so he may have more info. for you.
Michael Richard Daniell Foot also wrote of him in: Anglo-Dutch Relations 1940-1945, pages 151-152, but he notes two missions that Mr. Dessing went on, although I think it was two missions in one.
Various sites I found refer to Mr. Dessing as a South African or a Hollander, but I am sure he is Dutch.

Alles van die beste, all the best, Rob Annandale
