CITATION:
Bronze Star with "V" Device : For valorous actions while serving as a M240B Assistant Gunner on March 4, 2002. Spc. Vela moved with Chalk 2 to relieve the enemy pressure on Chalk 1. The assault force movement culminated in an assault on an enemy fortified position where Spc. Vela assisted the aid and litter teams and provided security under a withering enemy counterattack.
