Hello - JP Young was my grandmother's husband before she went on to marry by grandfather after JP's death in the war. I am researching this part of our family history. I was curious where you got the information above here. I notice that it says he was in the 509th Parachute Infantry Battalion, but when I click on the link to picture of his grave above, his grave stone says he was in the 517th. Another website also said he was in the 509th (here: https://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/509/509_trp.html#lijewski). And on a website dediated to the 517th he is also missing from the list of those killed. So it's a bit of a mystery to me if perhaps he was in the 509 and then the 517? I'm trying to research this. The records in the US National Archives that would have this information were destroyed in a fire in 1973 it seems. So, I wanted to see if you had any information on where the details above (even including his number) were gathered from or any other suggestions to help me research this. Thank you!
Katie

Sorry my father who added the entry passed away 2020 so not sure where he got 509th from.
I've updated a few more details to his record above.
I have had a look and headstone application states 517th. I've attached his draft card and birth certificate too.

Also checking the Christmas 1944 roster for 517th, he is listed there under Company H as Corporal.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. Thank you so much for this fast reply and the information, so appreciate it. I'm curious, in the details above you had my grandmother's name (Earline Byrd), which document did you get that from? I don't see it in the ones attached. And also didn't see where the dates of 16.02.1942 draft card and 03.1943 entered service came from so maybe there was a 2nd page that didn't come through? Just wondering if there was one more source I could get. Thank you and happy holidays!

From newspaper article : Lubbock Evening Journal, Lubbock, Texas · Thursday, August 04, 1949
It mentions your grandmother's name as well as date for entering service.
Draft card date from Ancestry.
Hope this helps. Best wishes, Craig
