Along with all the amazing work Sargent Collins did with the Airborne Regiment he also volunteered his time to train young teens with the Army Cedet corp in Petawawa in the mid 1980’s . I had the very good fortune to be one of those cadets. Though Sargent Collins was not accustomed to training young girls of 16 he was never condescending and never treated the girls in the corp any differently than the boys, expecting the same level of excellence he expected from all the cadets. Yet he was understanding when we needed different accommodations, never making any of us feel uncomfortable. He was a strong person and a tough instructor but most of all an inspiration to us all. I know I’m a better person having had him as one of my mentors. Thank you Sargent Collins for your time and your training
