    The sun on the men's faces is low and from the left side. This suggests a morning or evening shot - in 1943 they were in Sicily and Southern Italy via Taranto to Bari area. but the steep roofs suggest a snow area to me so this remains a mystery. Graham

    Hello Australia, My father was in 2 SAS in Italy and he was responsible at that time for sending in all re-supply drops by parachute to missions up north. His CO was Roy Farran. His freind, Jack Payley may be still alive - he too was in Italy. Graham Alcock

    Matteo are you saying this was 1945. SAS were operating out of Cecina in 1945 to parts of Northern Italy. My father was in Roy Farran's Italy Detachment as their SQMS - John Alcock. It seems to be the summer months as the men have their shirt sleeves rolled up. The roofs of the houses are steep...

    In some sources they say Trooper Ashe was part of Loyton but actually he was part of Operation Pistol-see rolls for Pistol.
