CITATION:
Distinguished Service Cross : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Leif Bangsboll, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as a Liaison Officer, Special Forces Headquarters, Office of Strategic Services, European Theater of Operations, in action against enemy forces from 6 October 1944 to 6 May 1945. Lieutenant Bangsboll, by outstanding courage, high leadership and supreme daring, most successfully executed his hazardous mission, thereby performing services of the greatest value to the allied war effort. First Lieutenant Bangsboll’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
