Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Private First Class Jack H. R. Braswell (MCSN: 415125), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action while serving with the Fourth Marine Raider Battalion at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, by deliberately exposing himself to enemy fire to cover the withdrawal of his comrades, and at the same time safely evacuate a severely wounded Marine on 20 July 1943.
