Navy Cross : The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class Elden H. Cail (MCSN: 350342), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty while serving as a Machine-Gunner with the Second Battalion, Fourth Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade, during the recapture of the enemy Japanese-held Island of Guam in the Marianas on 28 July 1944. An aggressive and valiant fighter, unwavering in the performance of duty, Corporal Cail daringly risked his life to hold his gun on the line in the face of the most devastating mortar and machine-gun fire of the enemy.
