CITATION:

Military Medal : On 6 Nov 56, Marine Davidson was the LMG gunner of No 23 section clearing a seven storey block of flats and shops on Rue el Mahroussa, Port Said. As the section entered the building a burst of fire came through the ceiling above, killing one of his section and wounding two others. Davidson immediately returned the fire, and closing with the enemy, killed them. At this stage heavy machine gun fire was coming into the building from another block of flats opposite. Davidson immediately moved onto an exposed balcony and engaged the enemy positions with fire. He continued to fire, despite frequent sniping until the enemy had withdrawn.

By his most courageous conduct, and disregard of his personal safety, he was instrumental in enabling the remainder of his section to complete their task. Throughout the day he continued to fight with such courage and determination that his example became an inspiration to all ranks.

Place : Port Said Egypt
Date of Action : 5th November 1956
