CITATION:
Mention in Despatches : Lance Corporal Dunbar was a Section Second-in-Command in B Company Second Battalion The Parachute Regiment. During the night attack in the battle for Port Darwin and Goose Green on 28/29 May 1982, Lance Corporal Dunbar showed outstanding leadership and courage in the hand-to-hand fighting as the enemy position were cleared trench by trench. At first light B Company was pinned down by a strong enemy bunker. Lance Corporal Dunbar realising this, and on his own initiative, stood up under enemy fire, and from a range of 150 metres, calmly fired a light anti-tank rocket into the bunker. This action undoubtably saved the lives of several soldiers and allowed the Company to reorganise in safety and continue to advance. After neutralising the enemy bunker Lance Corporal Dunbar returned to his section and continued to display the same standards of leadership, coolness and courage until the end of the battle.
