CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Private First Class William J. Honohan (MCSN: 369574), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for gallantry in action while serving with the First Marine Raider Battalion at New Georgia, Solomon Islands on 20 July 1943. He volunteered to advance beyond his front lines under heavy enemy fire to successfully wipe out a hostile machine gun emplacement and its crew which held up the advance of his company.
