CITATION:

Military Medal : Since July 1950 Corporal JONES has been continually on anti-bandit operations in MALAYA in 'B' Troop, 42 Commando, Royal Marines. During most of this period he has been employed as leading scout of his sub section and has had numerous contacts with the enemy and has five bandits to his personal credit.

At all times he has displayed outstanding --------, zeal and offensive spirit and his ability as a leading scout and later as a Light Machine Gun group commander has earned him the admiration and respect of all ranks.

On 18th January 1952, while on patrol near JELAPAG near IPOH, as leading scout he contacted two armed MIN YUEN who fled into thick undergrowth. Corporal JONES and his No.2 scout gave chase and at 50 yards range he obtained a fleeting shot at one of the enemy, who was wounded and captured.

On 29th February 1952 Corporal JONES was in command of an ambush of 5 marines at TANJONG PHU near SEPANG. In order to lay the ambush he had to lead his party through a wire fence and across 200 yards of open ground unseen and unheard by the occupants of nearby buildings. By his outstanding skill in leadership and fieldcraft this was accomplished, the ambush was successful with one MRLA bandit killed, one seriously wounded and two rifles recovered.

By his outstanding skill at arms, agility and aggressiveness Corporal JONES has made a great contribution to the success of his Troop and the Commado.
