Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class John J. Lancaster, United States Army, for gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against the enemy while serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, in Iraq, on 6 January 2006. Sergeant First Class Lancaster led his team in an emergency breach into an enemy compound. He fearlessly entered the breach, ran through AK-47 fire, and eliminated an enemy fighter. His daring leadership and courageous example under fire inspired his men to fight bravely. Sergeant First Class Lancaster's gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
