CITATION:
Military Medal : Citation in respect of Sgt McGinn by Maj Fraser W. MC
On the 20th July 44, 200 miles behind the lines in the area of LUCY (Army/Air 115/9381) Sgt McGinn was driving a jeep containing Capt. Bradford and three other men. It was 0800 hrs when they came suddenly upon a convoy of some 200 Germans preparing a box ambush around the village. It was too late to turn back and Sgt McGinn took the only possible chance of charging the convoy. Almost at once a burst of enemy fire killed the rear gunner and as they passed the last vehicle a heavy burst of fire hit the jeep, killed Capt. Bradford, and severely wounded the other two men. The jeep was barely out of sight before the engine stopped and Sgt McGinn having made certain that 2 of his passengers were dead, took to the woods with the two wounded. For two says Sgt McGinn looked after these two, dressing their wounds, administering what aid he could and guiding them back towards the base at MAZIGNEN. Eventually he managed to contact a Maquis element who took care of the wounded while he immediately carried out to the main base to report.
