CITATION:

Military Cross : This officer has shown himself a daring and resourceful Long Ranger Patrol Leader. In September 1940 he led the first expedition into Libya, and penetrated some 400 miles into enemy territory, where he seized an enemy mail lorry bound for Kufra, and brought back much other useful information. At UWEINAT on Nov. 30th, 1940, by his skilful handling of his patrol when they were caught in the open desert by three enemy aircraft and bombed for more than an hour, he managed to avoid receiving a single casualty, either to men or vehicles. The following day he led a spirited and well-planned attack on the enemy garrison of UWEINAT. Since then his services have been most valuable as Squadron Commander in organising and training new patrols.
