CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Spencer H. Pratt (MCSN: 0-7551), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Commanding Officer of Company F, Second Marine Parachute Battalion during an attack against enemy Japanese forces on Choiseul Island, Solomon Islands on October 30, 1943. Fighting desperately at close range, Captain Pratt, though severely wounded early in the action gallantly remained in the front leading and directing the attack. By his courageous leadership in the face of terrific opposition, Captain Pratt inspired the men under his command to maintain the initiative and drive the enemy back in disorder. His courageous example of heroism under fire was a vital factor in the ultimate success of the operation and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
