Dear Dave, i am a free lance journalist from Reggio Emilia (Operation Tombola area) interested in this action. Is your father still alive? The best friend of my grandfather mr. Glauco Monducci (passed away 2 years ago) was the leader of the Black Owls (Gufi Neri) partisan group who fought in Tombola together with your father. He was wounded in action (in Roy Farran book he was called as "Bruno" even if his real nick name as partisan was "Gordon").

I too recognize Cpl Cunningham, he is my Uncle Bill. I had to ask family members to learn that he was known as Joe back then. He too was involved in Operation Tombola. Mr Oakes if you recognize him then I guess you have seen other pictures of him. I would be fascinated to hear if you have any more information or even photos, as he never talked much about his exploits.
Just to let all 2SAS relatives and interested people know - my book SAS Operation Pistol is now advertised on Amazon UK and many European sites. It covers southern Italy - Operation Pistol - and the murder story I uncovered. Father was one of 10 Croix De Guerre at Silver Star medal winners - the book also acknowledges the French by name who aided my father and his C3 group for Pistol -the main character being Jean Koenig. - Graham Alcock
