My father is second from the left. He was SSM J Alcock - he was RSM 3 para in 1956 at Suez. This was the last battalion sized drop that the british army has up to now performed. The man on the extreme left is Laybourne.
 
Jack Alcock took part in Operation Pistol. His patrol derailed a small troop train in Alsace and later fought their way out of a cottage when trapped in it by seven enemy soldiers in Alsace Lorraine. He captured an American front line outpost and surrendered to it to end his mission. he was debriefed by the American Colonel Clark of the Fourth Armoured Division. Jack was awarded the Croix de Guerre with Silver Star for this mission. In 1961 he re-joined the SAS from the parachute regiment. he l
