R. Farran

from F.William Oakes
This photograph was taken in the Town Hall of Bains-les-Bains in September 1994 by me just after Roy had been awarded the Legion d'Honneur and also a local Maquis medal which was also awarded to other comrades of Roy who were present. My father, Freddie Oakes of 2nd SAS and one of Roy's signallers on Operation Wallace (the other was Joe Cunningham) also received the Maquis medal. I was particularly pleased (and lucky) with this photograph and was very honoured when the Farran family used it for the Funeral of Roy in Calgary, Canada in the Order of Service (2006) which I attended.
