CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to Lieutenant Colonel Michael S. Currin (MCSN: 0-5095), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action while serving with the Fourth Marine Raider Battalion at New Georgia, Solomon Islands as a battalion commander while aggressively leading his organization forward under intense small arms and mortar fire against strong enemy positions during which he made repeated personal reconnaissance to his front lines and contributed largely to the destruction of many of the enemy on 20 July 1943.
