CITATION:

Silver Star : The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Mitchell Hall, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving as Operations Department Chief, Naval Special Warfare Task Unit-HABBANIYAH in direct support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM from 1 January to 13 April 2007. Chief Hall's extraordinary efforts during two raids and two sniper overwatch missions led to the capture of 17 enemy personnel and recovery of a significant munitions cache. On a 2 April 2007 mission to disrupt enemy activity in the insurgent stronghold of Albu Bali, he displayed extraordinary bravery when his position came under a complex attack. Chief Hall repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire, engaged and destroyed an approaching enemy fighter, and provided suppressive fire for his teammates. He then pulled an unconscious and severely wounded teammate to safety through enemy fire as the enemy numbers and volume of fire increased. With his element pinned down, Chief Hall skillfully guided a quick reaction force past his position to provide suppressive fire and secure a helicopter landing zone to evacuate the wounded SEAL. By his courageous actions, bold initiative, and total dedication to duty, Chief Hall reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions to the United States Naval Service.
