CITATION:

Military Cross : Night 23rd - 24th January, 1959. Lieutenant Jeapes was a troop commander in 'A' Squadron, 22 S.A.S, which was ordered to seize and hold the very strong natural feature known as the Aqbat Al Dhafar during the night of 23/24th January. This feature was nearly 8,000 feet up and had precipitous 3,000 foot cliffs on either side.

He advanced with his troop to a point on the lower slopes of the 200 foot high feature when the enemy opened accurate and heavy fire from LMGs and rifles. He remained completely unperturbed and calmly directed one section to return the fire and pushed on up the track leading his other two sections, By using broken and dead ground he swarmed up to the top and drove the enemy off with hand grenades. On the reverse slopes of the feature some enemy were still holding out in spite of accurate bren and energa fire being directed into their sangars, and once again Lieutenant Jeapes and his troop winkled them out with handgrenades at very close range.
